The MAAP Certification Board of Addiction Professionals offers certification on a voluntary basis to applicants who meet criteria for the certifications. The Board is a member of the International Certification and Reciprocity Consortium (ICRC). The ICRC has set minimum standards for certification.
Certification through MAAP Certification Board provides assurance to the public that certified counselors have demonstrated an appropriate level of knowledge and skill to perform competently in all treatment modalities.
The certificate is the counselor's passport to relocation through application for reciprocity to any member boards of ICRC. Each member board of ICRC accepts the certificate of another member board without having to meet additional qualifications. The current list for reciprocity board members include Mississippi and forty-five (45) other state certification boards, the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Army, U.S. Navy, Indian Health Services and Nashville Area Indian Health Services, Canada, Sweden, and Germany. This process creates a new level of mobility for the addiction or prevention professional.
The CADC, CPS, CPM,CCAP, CCJP, ICPS, ICPM, ICCJP may apply for the International Certificate Alcohol and Drug Counselor (ICADC). Because each Board uses its own acronym, this certificate helps to reduce confusion in our field. You must be certified through your state certification board in order to apply for this certificate.
In conclusion, we are a member organization. Therefore, as a member, you dictate to the Board of Directors exactly what you want your association to do for you as a chemical dependency counselor.
